Round table: “Professionalization of Supervisory Boards: Between Recommendations and Reality”
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, a round table discussion titled “Professionalization of Supervisory Boards: Between Recommendations and Reality” was held at the Business Club 5 venue, Sky Office in Zagreb. The event was organized by the Croatian Corporate Governance and Management Society and it brought together representatives from the professional and business communities, confirming strong interest in advancing corporate governance practices in Croatia.
The central theme of the event was the role and importance of professionalizing supervisory boards in modern business conditions marked by increasingly complex regulatory requirements and growing stakeholder expectations, particularly in the context of Croatia’s accession process to the OECD. It was emphasized that the quality of supervisory functions is becoming a key prerequisite for responsible, effective, and long-term sustainable organizational management.
The conference was opened by Professor Darko Tipurić Ph.D, who highlighted the need for the systematic strengthening of competencies among supervisory board members, as well as their genuine independence in decision-making.
The panel discussion featured Professor Danijela Miloš Sprčić, Ph.D, Mislav Vucić, and Ivo Markotić, and was moderated by Lana Cindrić, Ph.D. Through a dynamic exchange of views, participants addressed the gap between regulatory frameworks and their practical implementation, as well as the concrete challenges in applying standards of good corporate governance.
Participants agreed that the further development of professional standards, education, and clearer appointment criteria represents a necessary step toward strengthening the role of supervisory boards and improving the overall quality of governance structures within the Croatian economy.
